ABSTRACT

Why? – Beware medical tourism It is worth thinking at the outset about what you want to get out of your period overseas. Do you want to go to a developing country to practise skills that you would not be allowed to do back home? Hang on! Is that right? It’s worth spending a few minutes getting this straight in your head. Medical tourism in this context refers to the dubious ethical aspects of doing an elective or period of work to ‘practise’ procedures or medicine. There is no doubt that this is wrong if you are not competent to perform them in your own country. It does not mean that going on an elective is wrong, so long as this is clear in your mind.
