ABSTRACT

It was earlier supposed that the discovery of antibiotics would have been a powerful tool to control pathogens and infectious diseases. Unfortunately, after 80 years we must state, that the fi ght against microbes is still continuing and remains as one of the permanent challenges before mankind (Wainwright 2004). The emergence of multi-antibiotic-resistant pathogens has enhanced the risk of infectious diseases, making it necessary for microbial safety of foods and preservation postharvest (Brovko 2010).
