ABSTRACT

The normal larynx is a cartilaginous box comprising the epiglottis, thyroid and cricoid cartilages, and the paired arytenoid, corniculate, and cuneiform cartilages. It extends from the tip of the epiglottis to the inferior border of the cricoid. The interior of the larynx is lined by respiratory epithelium, with the exception of the true vocal cords, which are lined by squamous epithelium. The lining mucosa is smooth and shiny.
