ABSTRACT

More is known about the coronary than about any other circulation in humans. This is a consequence of clinical importance and diagnostic need. Disease of the coronary arteries is responsible for more morbidity and mortality than any other disease in Western society (Assmann et al., 1999; Brown and O’Connor, 2010; Yeh et al., 2010). Invasive and non-invasive methods, including mathematical and computer reconstruction models, have provided precise information on the coronary arteries – especially on their anatomy and involvement by atherosclerotic disease (Falk et al., 1995; Mittal et al., 2005; Zamir, 2005; Huo and Kassab, 2006; Achenbach and Raggi, 2010; Applegate, 2010; Kern and Samady, 2010; Mark et al., 2010).
