Special investigations used in the assessment of the dizzy patient

A pure tone audiogram (PTA) is required in every patient. A sensorineural hearing loss may be present in patients suffering from Ménière’s disease, for example. In such patients, the sensorineural hearing loss follows a recognised pattern (a fluctuating low frequency loss in the initial stages, followed by a high frequency loss which then plateaus across all thresholds).
