ABSTRACT

All values for electricity produced by wind turbines depend on wind resources and cover a range. Installed weighted average costs for wind farms declined to $1,000/kW by 2003-a value of electricity produced of $0.04 to 0.06/kWh. Operation and maintenance (O&M) costs for wind farms were around $0.01/kWh. In the U.S., contracts for selling electricity from wind farms in 1995 were signed for $0.04/kWh and dropped to less than $0.03/kWh in 2002. Since then, the prices of steel, cement, and copper increased, and the installed cost increased to $1,180 to 3,500/kW (weighted average = $2,155/kW) in 2010, and dropped slightly in 2011 [1]. At an installed cost of $2,000/kW, that translates to a value of electricity of $0.07 to 0.09/kWh.
