ABSTRACT

Practising orthopaedic surgeons need to maintain basic pharmacological knowledge for a comprehensive care of orthopaedic patients. Orthopaedic pharmacology deals with common classes of drugs that are used in the management of pre-operative, intra-operative and postoperative orthopaedic conditions. This chapter covers analgesics and anti-inflammatory drugs, glucocorticoids, anticoagulants, thrombolytics, anti-osteoporotic drugs and nutraceuticals. Antibiotics and anti-neoplastic drugs are described elsewhere in this textbook.
