ABSTRACT

From the discovery of the X-ray in 1895 to the present day, the role of diagnostic imaging has continued to expand within the world of medicine. From trauma to tumours, the ability to provide exquisite anatomical and physiological information has revolutionized the way that we do business as physicians. The goal of this chapter is to provide basic information about the numerous imaging modalities available to the orthopaedic surgeon today, as well as the strengths and weaknesses of each, with a primary emphasis on MRI.
