ABSTRACT

As in most areas of paediatric medicine, the orthopaedic physical examination of a child is unique compared with that of the adult patient. The paediatrician’s often repeated phrase ‘children are not just small adults’ is especially pertinent in the orthopaedic realm as the growth and development of the child present a dynamic situation that changes as the child gets older. Knowledge of normal development and pathological conditions is required to accurately assess the child.
