ABSTRACT

A 36-year-old Afro-Caribbean lady presents with a pregnancy at 12 weeks’ gestation with severe abdominal pain and not having voided for the past 10 hours. On examination the uterus is retroverted. What is the most likely diagnosis? I An acutely retroverted uterus can cause urinary retention at the beginning of

the second trimester. Immediate relief occurs after catheterisation. The condition is self-limiting and improves with advancing gestation.
