ABSTRACT

The temporomandibular joint (Fig. 20.1a,b) is a synovial joint of a modified hinge (condyloid) variety between the condyle of the mandible and the mandibular fossa of the temporal bone. The hemicylindrical condyle is directed medially and the temporal articular surface is convexoconcave from front to back. The articular surfaces are covered with fibrocartilage.
