ABSTRACT

Format There are two separate communication stations, each lasting 6 minutes. You will be given the scenario to read approximately 2 minutes prior to entering the station. The relative lack of reliable child actors means that these stations often involve dealing with a role player, who may be a parent, carer or healthcare professional. You will be asked to conduct your consultation with the role player and/or child. A telephone conversation, such as a call from a concerned parent, doctor or professional may be included. The role player will have brief covering information about the history and specific questions to ask. You should aim to complete the station within the allocated 6 minutes, however,

some of the scenarios might easily form the basis of a 10-minute consultation in general practice. Therefore, candidates are expected to do their best in the given timeframe, because it is possible to pass the station without completing all possible items provided that you communicate appropriately, provide correct information without jargon, suitably close the consultation and arrange appropriate follow up with the role player.
