ABSTRACT

Exposing the operation site It is important to allow patients to remove their outer garments (ideally in a changing room, but at the very least in an area where they are not overlooked) and to reach the operating table in a state of dignity with modesty preserved. Within hospital settings, surgical gowns are usually provided, and GPs should consider how to allow patients to maintain their modesty if a supply of gowns is not available. This is where a suitably trained assistant is invaluable.
