ABSTRACT
The hip joint is a ball and socket joint formed between the head of the femur and the three bones that comprise the acetabulum, the ilium, ischium and pubis. It is surrounded by a tough membranous capsule lined by synovium and contains the synovial fluid that lubricates the joint.
