This chapter provides Physiology, Congenital malformations, Causes of wheeze, Bronchiolitis, Inhalation of a foreign body, Aspiration (acute and recurrent), Asthma, Viral-induced wheeze, Causes of chronic cough, Infection, Cystic fibrosis, Bronchiectasis, Immotile cilia syndrome, a1-Antitrypsin deficiency, Pulmonary fibrosis and Sarcoidosis. It discusses the listed diseases of Clinical features, Investigations, Management, causes, and complications. Peak respiratory flow rate (PEFR) is a useful and very simple lung function test. It varies with height, sex, age and ethnic group. It also varies during the day, being lowest in the early morning, and with exercise, being low shortly after moderate exercise. It is used to assess asthma severity by comparing a child’s PEFR to normal corrected PEFR and to the individual child’s normal PEFR.
