ABSTRACT

Coal slurry fuels consist of nely ground coal particles dispersed into one or more liquids such as water, oil, or methanol. Slurry fuels have the advantages of being convenient to handle as liquid fuel (similar to heavy fuel oil) and possessing high energy density, as illustrated in Table 4.1.1,2 Coal slurries have been investigated as a potentially efcient replacement for oil in boilers and furnaces, fuel in internal combustion engines, and recently, energy feedstock for coring of coal nes in utility boilers. Coal slurry is used around the world in countries such as the United States, Russia, Japan, China, and Italy.
