ABSTRACT

This chapter covers catalytic processes of stereospecific oxidations of C-H functional groups. Strictly speaking, stereospecific processes are not asymmetric in the traditional sense since no new elements of chirality are created during catalytic transformation [1]. On the other hand, according to IUPAC definitions, stereospecific processes are necessarily stereoselective [1]. Moreover, multi-stage chiral synthesis (synthesis of chiral compounds) is always a combination of stereoselective chemical transformations (creating new asymmetric center(s)) and stereospecific ones (retaining the stereoconfiguration of already existing asymmetric centers).
