ABSTRACT

The interior of the planet Earth consists of three successive concentric regions (Figure 2.1), the innermost being the core. It is surrounded by the mantle, which in turn, is surrounded by the outermost region, the crust. The crust is surrounded by a gaseous envelope, the atmosphere.
