ABSTRACT
As inventors and innovators, we can use a simple rule of thumb: The more instances of various elements that are present in the system, the more important the Control is. For example, as we discussed in Chapter 3 the more songs, books, movies, podcasts, and other content Bob has in his media library, and the more media sources and play-out devices he can access, the more valuable his iTunes setup becomes to him. In a different example, the more items a retailer, such as Walmart or Amazon, wants to put on the shelves in their virtual or brick-and-mortar stores, the more important their merchandizing, marketing, and supply chain management systems become. In other words, in the Efciency stage, the system devotes more resources to ensuring that the right Packaged Payload gets from the right Source to the right Tool over the right Distribution route at the right time and at the right cost.
