ABSTRACT
In this chapter, we rst describe the structure and optical properties of QDs and discuss engineering strategies to enhance their properties for bioimaging applications. We then explore recent biological questions that have been answered through the implementation of QDs as singlemolecule emitters, and nally we summarize early-stage attempts to incorporate these particles into advanced optical imaging modalities of nanoscopy and orientation-specic imaging.
