ABSTRACT

The backbone of a transgenic line is the gene construct which must contain all appropriate elements critical for gene expression. The elements of a gene construct include the transgene, a promoter gene, a reporter gene, and an intron. This chapter deals with transgenes responsible for herbicide and insect resistance besides gene promoters, the essential components of gene expression in transgenic engineering. The other genetic elements required during genetic transformation have been discussed in Chapters 3 and 4.
