ABSTRACT
I. GENERAL CONSIDERATIONS The chemistry of anionic polymerization of vinyl monomers is based on the fundamentals of carbanion chemistry. In order to understand the kinetics and mechanisms of anionic polymerization, it is necessary to consider the fundamental aspects of carbanion structure-stability-reactivity relationships. In this chapter the theoretical and experimental information relating to the structures of carbanions and organometallic compounds will be summarized.
