ABSTRACT

It is important to understand this chapter is no substitute for an ethics course. It is aimed at introducing the topic and providing some practical examples. We will cover some of the ethical dilemmas brought about by micro-/nanotechnology that aect society [Nordmann 2007]. First, we shall identify some ethics principles that relate to small technology. Second, an ethics algorithm will be introduced to break down problems into their ethical components. ird, we will discuss some important social issues that are impacted by micro-nanotechnology, and case studies will be provided. In many instances, these issues will overlap bioethics. In these cases, nanoethics and bioethics will be intertwined.
