is picturesque, agrarian state of Iowa was a world away from the technological mecca of Silicon Valley in California, but that did not keep the Hawkeye State from having its own hi-tech darling, tucked away in Clive, a suburb of the state’s capital, Des Moines. All one had to do was to drive north on 114th Street, past the headquarters of the National Pork Board, to nd a nondescript, one-story complex of buildings. is was the home of Microware Systems Corporation, a company whose product would come to play a prominent role in Tandy’s Color Computer (Figure 6.1).
