ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT Biomarkers of cutaneous malignant melanoma now guide certain aspects of clinical practice and have a great potential for early detection of cancer. This chapter will review biomarkers that have a role in the clinical management of malignant melanoma. Pathological parameters such as tumor thickness, ulceration, and mitosis are important factors for staging of melanoma. Elevated serum LDH is correlated with poorer prognosis and is now introduced into the AJCC staging system.
