ABSTRACT

Geometry is the study of constructible shapes. In this chapter we will review some of the shapes that occur in geomatics and GIS that occupy ordinary two-or threedimensional “Euclidian” space. Euclid was a Greek mathematician of the 3rd century bc who worked out a series of axioms or postulations concerning points, lines, angles, surfaces, and volumes. From these, he derived 465 theorems.
