ABSTRACT

The introductory part of this chapter discusses the general features of graphene materials, accounting its physical and electrical properties. A short review of recent energy storage devices is also presented. Special attention is devoted to electrochemical capacitors and graphene materials-including composites with transition metal oxides, electrically conducting polymers-acting as electrodes, mainly due to their defective structure and suitable porosity. Critical discussion is conducted for the application of graphene and its composites in Li-ion battery technology; application of graphene in fuel cell electrodes, mainly as a catalyst support, is also discussed. The experimental data presented are revised with the data available in the most recent literature; however, some of them were obtained by the authors. Briey, this chapter describes graphene materials in electrochemical application, with particular interest in energy conversion and storage systems.
