ABSTRACT

The chapter reviews the properties of indirect RudermanKittel-Kasuya-Yosida coupling between magnetic moments in monolayer graphene nanostructures. Graphene nano-akes (nanodisks and quantum dots) of various shapes and zigzag or armchair edges as well as graphene nanoribbons with armchair edge are considered. The indirect interaction energy is calculated in a nonperturbative manner, using the tight-binding model supplemented with Hubbard term. The coupling dependence on impurity position and distance between the impurities is discussed. Importance of the form of nanostructure edge is particularly emphasized. Sensitivity of coupling to charge doping of the zero-dimensional nanostructures is demonstrated. The existence of a rst-order perturbative contribution to the coupling, emerging only in geometrically conned structures, is discussed.
