ABSTRACT

Paul Flory lived a life that viewed all scientists as part of the same community. He was a champion for freedom of investigation all over the world. He was willing to use his influence to encourage good scientists wherever they were found. There are four main areas that will be discussed in this chapter: (1) advocacy for specific individuals, (2) group efforts on behalf of human rights, (3) specific opposition to governmental misbehavior, and (4) activities in connection with the National Academy of Sciences and the United States Government.
