ABSTRACT

Every highly successful scientist has their own approach to the philosophy and practice of science. Flory was no exception. He was convinced that the observable world could be accurately described and cogently explained. Although he is often remembered as a theorist, it would be much better to view him as a complete scientist. He started with a thorough knowledge of the established theories of science. For Paul Flory, the king of theories was thermodynamics. If something violated thermodynamics, it was wrong, not just mistaken! Many of the unfortunates who felt the wrath of Paul Flory violated his first law: the second law of thermodynamics is always right!
