ABSTRACT

Computer-based implementations of real-time systems such as data acquisition systems and control systems have been in use in industrial applications for a long time. Such systems, being programmable, provide considerable flexibility, and their functionality can be modified comparatively easily. These systems are capable of being used to implement complex functions, and offer advantages of improved testing, superior user interface, and improved diagnostics support including self-checking. These systems can provide even derived information, that is, data computed based on the state of several external inputs, in real time.
