ABSTRACT
INTRODUCTION For many urologists, the mere mention of the words cell and molecular biology is sufficient to induce a state of anxiety. It is a recent and changing science with an unfamiliar and often confusing jargon. Nonetheless, even these same urologists appreciate that it is impossible to escape the subject altogether if one is to understand many of the recent developments in urology, especially in the field of urological oncology.
