The acid-base approach to the problem of interaction enhancement in adhesive joints is a promising theory which, due to its versatility, could facilitate solving many practical adhesion problems. According to this approach, the best adhesive joint is achieved provided that one of joinable materials shows acidic properties, while the other one has basic ones. Therefore, the main task in designing adhesive joint is to achieve maximal difference in those properties of adhesive and adherend, although getting such a difference is necessary but not always sufficient condition for excellent adhesive interaction because of other operating adhesion mechanisms.
