ABSTRACT

Generator outputs are sent through transmission lines from the generator to a local electrical substation. This substation then converts the generated power into differing voltages and currents for transmission to additional substations that form the core of the electrical distribution system. Transmission voltages vary but are usually in the hundreds of thousands of volts. Substations form the backbone of the electrical distribution grid. Several different types of substations are available, although a single substation may combine the properties from the several types:

• Distribution substation-This substation takes power from the power transmission system and directs this power to the distribution system for a geographic area.
