ABSTRACT
In the extinct group of Tabulata, the individual theca did not exceed a diameter of a few millimeters. So sclerosepta may be either absent or consist of serial spines that grew in blisters small enough to indent the large pneu of the polyp. The limited size of individual polyps was compensated for by budding. Therefore tabulate corals are always colonial.
