ABSTRACT

The disturbance characteristic of a repeated longitudinal wave may be described in terms of regions of relative density enhancement and depletion, or alternatively by compressions and rarefactions. In conjunction with our analysis of the energetics of longitudinal waves, we shall expose relations between these viewpoints.
