ABSTRACT

Dry chemicals remain one of the most efficient extinguishing media available. On a weight basis, a dry chemical system frequently outperforms any gaseous system, including halon, although its applicability to manned areas is not as wide. This chapter specifies the minimum requirements for dry chemical powder fire-extinguishing systems that discharge powder from a container or centrally grouped containers through pipework or a hose by means of expellant gas to a nozzle or nozzles within the hazard area. It covers both stored pressure-and gas-contained systems, with maximum working pressures not exceeding 25 bar at maximum ambient temperature.
