3. Coordinates
Each of the forces listed above acts in either the horizontal or vertical direction, with the possible exception of
→ P . Block 1 slides horizontally to the right, Block 2
falls vertically downward, and the Pulley is fixed in place. Exercising our freedom to choose different coordinate sets, (xi , yi), for each constituent, we arrive at the choices displayed in the following table.
