ABSTRACT

In joyous celebration of their smashing successes on a physics midterm exam, Albert and Bertal Steinein threw a party. To foster the festivities they purchased a keg of (root)beer. [A full keg has total mass M , and is approximately cylindrical with radius R and length L. It is reasonable to assume that its centre of mass coincides with its geometric centre.] Unhappily, the promised curbside delivery was to the road side rather than the sidewalk. Thus, they were faced with the daunting prospect of getting the keg up [a height h] onto the sidewalk.1
