ABSTRACT

Introduction This chapter is useful for several modes of learning about design science research (DSR)—pertaining to both knowledge contribution and the process used in conducting such research.

Analysis Examples Published DSR works, many of which have been highly influential in their areas, are analyzed in terms of their new knowledge contribution and the patterns used in the performance of the research. Some of them are from the information systems (IS) area while others are from the related field of computer science. In either case, they are exemplars of learning and investigation through artifact creation, the most fundamental characteristic of DSR.
