ABSTRACT
Description: It is a small species with cells measuring about 2 to 3 µm diameter. Cells have a very simple ultrastructure with reduced structural elements. It has chlorophyll a and completely lacks chlorophyll b and c. It is able to build up a high concentration of a range of pigments, such as astaxanthin, zeaxanthin, and canthaxanthin.
