ABSTRACT
DEFINITION Lymphedema is the buildup of proteinaceous fluid within the interstitial compartment secondary to abnormalities in the lymphatic transport system. It can result in soft and pitting edema that may progress to nonpitting edema and irreversible extremity enlargement,1 leading to progressive fibrosis and obstruction of the lymphatics.2
