ABSTRACT

Let M, B, and D denote the steady-state measurements of makeup flow, blowdown flow, and distillate flow, all rates, respectively, in an MSF desalination plant. These measured values are not directly useful as they are usually corrupted by measurement errors. As they are, these measurements do not satisfy the important condition of material balance, namely, M ≠ B + D. In order to render them worthy of further use, we resort to data reconciliation to yield the corresponding values ˆ ˆ ˆ .M = B + D This can be formulated as simple linear static data reconciliation problem.
