ABSTRACT

In this chapter, I focus essentially on data for rabbit, referring occasionally to frog. Many experimental studies of MgATPase activity have been performed, by independent groups, on chemically skinned and permeabilised fibres from psoas muscle. Several experimental results obtained in these studies are used in this chapter and at many places in this work. These data concern whole fibres, whether intact, skinned or permeabilised, isolated myofibrils and intact unit cells. The problems of dealing with such a mixture of biological materials are addressed throughout this monograph. Fortunately, consistent conclusions can nonetheless be drawn.
