The future development of the non ruminants (birds or rabbits) in Egypt, particularly under the desert and newly reclaimed areas, depends mainly on the availability of feedstuffs used in feeding (Abd El-Galil and Khidr 2000, 2001). For any years, some

halophytes and salt tolerant feedstuffs have been used in feeding large animals under Egyptian desert conditions. These feedstuffs underwent some chemical, mechanical and biological treatments and proved useful in improving productivity and reproductive traits of animals under desert conditions (Kandil and El Shaer 1988, 1990; El Shaer et al. 1990; Abou El-Nasr et al. 1998).
