ABSTRACT

A chemical reaction is the transformation of one molecule or collection of molecules into another molecule or collection of molecules. e acid-base reactions discussed in previous chapters are all chemical reactions. e emphasis to this point has been on the electron transfer denition (two electron donors and two electron acceptors) of acids and bases. e chemical reactions presented in subsequent chapters also involve making and breaking covalent bonds, indicated by electron donation of one species to another in most cases. e fundamental principles for bond making and bond breaking in acid-base reactions will be extended to many other reactions.
