ABSTRACT

Amines are used as bases and also as nucleophiles throughout portions of this book. e structure and nomenclature of simple amines was introduced in Section 5.8.4, but only a few reactions have been discussed that form an amine. Exceptions are the formation and reactions of the aromatic amine, aniline (see Sections 21.4 and 21.10), and the hydride reduction of nitriles and amides in Sections 19.3, 19.4.5, and 19.5.4. is chapter will rst review some fundamentals of amine chemistry and then proceed into new areas.
