ABSTRACT

A model is typically thought of as a simplification of a more complex situation. The focus of a model is to abstract the most important or key features from what is being modeled so that we may more clearly understand the modeled situation, or see how it relates to other aspects of reality. There are a variety of different types of models though, but each type still represents an approximation or simplification of something more detailed.
