ABSTRACT
This chapter describes the elements and concepts of E-R modeling, including types, attributes, and instances of entities; types, attributes, instances, and degrees of relationships between entities; maximum and minimum cardinalities of relationships; associative entities and weak entities; and superclass and subclass entities. A case study of a database for a healthcare information system is used to illustrate the development of an E-R model. Chapter 26 gives the requirements for the healthcare database in Section 26.1.
