ABSTRACT

Carbon and stainless steel reinforcing bars from accredited sources are certified under the CARES system where the origin, type and details of each bar are coded into the surface. Reinforcing cages should be prepared on a jig bespoke for the particular product in order for the required dimensions and tolerances to be achieved. Steel reinforcement can also be galvanised, sheradised or coated by other means such an application of zinc-based paint. Only in the case of steel fibre reinforced concrete may a tenuous comparison be made with the more conventionally-reinforced steel bar-reinforced concrete. A common form of prestressing in the precast industry is the wet-cast pretensioning method where long line production is used for beams, slabs and railway sleepers. Prestressing wires and strands are normally delivered on large spools with each spool accompanied by a Certificate of Conformity showing compliance with the EN.
